Toyota is the most profitable car company

While Toyota's market share in Austria is currently 2.3 percent (January to July 2020, Statistics Austria), the Toyota Group is on the right track worldwide. The online portal Kryptoszene.de has compiled the EBIT margins (2019) of the most important automobile manufacturers. Clear winner: Toyota, with an EBIT margin of 8.4 percent. This puts us clearly ahead of Volkswagen (margin: 7.3%) and BMW (margin: 6.8%). Surprising: Daimler can only boast an EBIT margin of 3.1 percent, less than Suzuki, Kia, Honda FCA and General Motors.
The profit in the second quarter of 2020 shows how well Toyota is actually doing: the Japanese recorded a whopping 110 million euros, while Volkswagen reported a loss of 1.6 billion euros, Daimler even over 1.9 billion euros. BMW was able to limit its quarterly loss to 666 million euros.
The EU requirement of 95 grams of CO2Emissions per kilometer are also closest to Toyota - as of the end of 2019. Helpful: the almost 50 percent hybrid share, which dramatically reduces fleet consumption. According to Handelsblatt, most other European automotive companies were in the range of around 120 grams per kilometer and higher at the end of 2019.
Toyota is also a leader in filing patents related to autonomous driving. With 1,143 patents, they are just ahead of Ford (1,096). Tech giants like Alphabet (572) and Intel (51) come in fourth and fifth place.
