The new business area is intended to support the research, development and marketing of lubricants for electric vehicles. The company is thus responding to the increasing demand for e-mobility throughout the EMEA region. The new department will be headed by James Mark, previously EMEA Marketing Director at PLI, as Head of NEV Fluid. According to the World Economic Forum, one in seven cars sold worldwide in 2022 was an electric car - an increase of 60 percent compared to the previous year. And sales figures will probably continue to rise. European legislation and incentives to reduce emissions have a major influence on this. But consumers also want more sustainable mobility. This development poses major challenges for the automotive and lubricants industries. Therefore, PLI invests in powerful solutions for customers to become a decisive global player in this field.

The new business unit is intended to build solid technical expertise in the NEV environment. It also strengthens the next engineering phase of PLI following the launch of the market-leading PETRONAS Iona EV Fluid product range. The company aims to use its extensive lubricant expertise to support the adoption of electric vehicles and better prepare customers for the transition from combustion engines to electric powertrains. "The current developments in the automotive industry are extremely exciting. We see more vehicle types on the road today than ever before - and they all have different requirements," says James Mark, Head of NEV Fluids Business Unit at PLI. "I am therefore pleased to be working with our R&D teams to develop EV fluids for a sustainable tomorrow today. We will continue to expand our NEV business to become an important global player in this segment."
