Tire pressure alarm via email and SMS

Continental and Vergölst, Continental's German trading subsidiary, are jointly building a comprehensive service network for ContiConnect customers
on. All Vergölst commercial vehicle centers will be equipped with the web-based system solution in the long term. With ContiConnect, Vergölst is significantly expanding its service offering. The company is positioning itself even more strongly with its customers as a partner for professional tire management that makes fleets safer and more efficient. Fleet customers can transmit vehicle tire data to their fleet management in real time at measuring stations throughout Germany. When planning the route, the measuring points can be planned and communicated to the drivers so that they can target the commercial vehicle centers in a targeted manner.
Always travel safely
This service is free for ContiConnect customers. It is part of a joint service offensive by Continental and Vergölst. “It is important to us that our customers are mobile at all times,” says Thorsten Schuckenböhmer, head of the commercial vehicle business at Vergölst. "This includes avoiding downtime and idle times. Equipping our commercial vehicle centers nationwide with ContiConnect makes it possible to check the condition of the tires, which ensures that our customers are always safe on the road." Because incorrect tire inflation pressure results in higher fuel consumption and higher CO2 emissions. In addition, the braking distance can be longer and the service life of the tires can be significantly reduced.
This has concrete advantages for Continental’s customers: “Our customers should be able to concentrate fully on their core business,” says Silke Meier, Head of Digital Solutions at Continental. “The software and the tire experts at the local specialist shop take care of the rest.” Even if a truck does not return to its location every day, tire data can be recorded. The three components tire sensor, yard reader and web portal communicate with each other so that data such as tire inflation pressure and temperature are recorded by the measuring point (yard reader) and transferred to the web portal.
Drivers should be relieved
The fleet manager automatically receives an SMS or email if the tire pressure or temperature is incorrect. He can take action before a breakdown occurs. “This means our customers always have an overview of their fleet, without wasting time or organizational effort,” adds Meier. The driver doesn't even have to get out of the car. The measuring station automatically records the tire condition during stops. “We know that the drivers are under time pressure and we want to relieve them with our service,” concludes Vergölst expert Schuckenböhmer. In the first step, 18 Vergölst commercial vehicle centers will be equipped with the new service. The Hamburg location started. In the long term, all 80 locations will be connected to the Yard Reader network.
Tire production in Achen is closed
Another recent report from Continental is less encouraging: The Supervisory Board of Continental AG has confirmed the expanded measures of the “Transformation 2019-2029” program that have been announced since the beginning of September 2020. This is intended to set the course for a future-oriented and competitive positioning of the tire sector, which is said to be confronted with increasing overcapacity in Europe. Against this background, the Supervisory Board confirmed the Management Board's decision to stop production at the tire plant in Aachen at the end of 2021. This affects around 1,800 of the around 2,000 jobs there.
