Austrians set world record for changing tires

49:03 seconds. That's how long it took a team of apprentices from Lucky Car, Austria's largest contract-free vehicle repair shop, to change all four tires on a car. A time that represents a new world record.

This means that the record for the “fastest time to change four tires on a car”, which was monitored by the strict eyes of a Guinness World Records official, moves from Germany to Austria. So far, Umert's team has claimed this achievement with a time of 58.43 seconds. The Lucky Car team was able to beat the time by almost 10 seconds.

Apprentices in front of the curtain

Lucky Car founder Ostoja “Ossi” Matic is particularly pleased that this success was achieved by apprentices: “Our youngsters have had months of hard training behind them to bring this record to Austria. They deserve this success, which shows that we are on the right track with our apprentice offensive.” Matic's special appreciation for young people is no coincidence, as he himself made it from apprentice to company founder: "We have exactly this vision for our employees. You start as an apprentice, become operations manager and ultimately franchise partner of your own Lucky Car branch," says Matic.

Offensive against a shortage of skilled workers

Lucky Car will continue its successful apprenticeship offensive in this country over the next few years. “Our recipe for combating the shortage of skilled workers is: We train our own young talent and enable them to receive ongoing training, further education and training,” says Matic.

For Matic, it's easy to explain why they embarked on the world record experiment: "We do many things differently than the competition and don't shy away from challenges. The attempt seemed like a good way to draw attention to our expertise in tires and tire changes." In fact, Lucky Car also offers vehicle mechanics and tire service for all car brands at 12 of a total of 40 locations in Austria, in addition to the areas of paint & bodywork and auto glass.

The record, which took place at the Lucky Car location Percostraße 3 in Vienna 22, naturally had to be celebrated with a supporting program: ORF presenter legend Adi Niederkorn commented on the record attempt Comedy Shepherds provided entertainment. A food truck delivered local delicacies and cocktails to the crowd of guests, which included interested parties and customers as well as the who's who of the Austrian automotive industry - of course in compliance with all Corona rules.
