ÖAMTC summer tire test 2017

In the ÖAMTC's current summer tire test, 31 models in the two dimensions 195/65 R 15 V and 215/65 R 16 H were tested in detail. “Only one “not recommended” and two “conditionally recommended” out of 31 tested models are a very good result,” sums up ÖAMTC tire expert Friedrich Eppel. The rest of the field is in the range between “highly recommended” or “recommended”. According to the ÖAMTC, there are no outliers for tires in the frequently sold size 195/65 R15 V. With a “highly recommended” rating, the five models Pirelli Cinturato P1 Verde, Bridgestone Turanza T001, Continental ContiPremiumContact 5, Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance and Esa-Tecar Spirit 5 HP are in the lead. Another ten scored “recommended” – only the GT Radial Champiro FE1 failed with “conditionally recommended” due to its wet grip properties. In addition to the standard models for all common vehicle classes, SUV tires were also examined for the first time. The result shows an even broader range of recommended products than in the smaller dimensions. The Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV and the Cooper Zeon 4XS Sport were rated “highly recommended”. When it comes to winter suitability, the ÖAMTC expert has another tip: “When buying SUV tires for winter use, you should also pay particular attention to the snowflake symbol,” emphasizes Eppel. “An “M+S” marking on the tires does not mean that they are suitable for winter use.”
