AI helps with vehicle diagnostics

With the automation of vehicle diagnostics using artificial intelligence and big data technology, Hella Gutmann is ushering in a new era. 'Automated Diagnosis' (AD) is intended to save workshops valuable time in the future and make the overall diagnostic process simpler and more accurate. In addition, linking diagnostics to components opens up new opportunities for retailers to do a more efficient parts business. The AD will be presented live for the first time to the specialist audience from workshops and retailers at Automechanika 2022 in Frankfurt am Main from September 13th to 17th, 2022. Integration into the mega macs SDI software is planned for the end of the year.

'Automated diagnosis' is an intelligent, continuously self-improving system that generates a statistically validated diagnostic result. The AD is based on around two billion recorded error codes and around five million recorded problem solutions from the technical call center at Hella Gutmann. This means that suitable components can be recommended in around 80 percent of diagnoses - and the trend is rising. A single click on the 'Automated Diagnosis' button starts a chain reaction that begins with automatic vehicle identification and error code reading and only ends when the statistically most likely defective component is located. The mega macs automatically selects the next diagnostic step in AD mode. With the help of AI, it knows the shortest route for every system diagnosis. He checks which systems are installed in the vehicle and which parameters are relevant for the diagnostic process. The mega macs is able to correlate these and make the right decision for the next required diagnostic step.

In the future, diagnosing a vehicle should be as easy as driving an automatic vehicle: connect the mega macs to the vehicle, activate the AD and turn to other work in the meantime. The mechanic only has to take action once the automatically generated diagnostic result with corresponding additional information is available. Of course, the person is free to follow the automated steps in real time on the display and - in the familiar Tip-tronik style - to intervene manually at any time.
