From November 2014, all new cars must be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). This makes changing tires significantly more complex. According to various expert estimates, a process time of around 38 minutes was calculated, i.e. around two and a half times as long as before. For the tire retailer, it's not just about charging for working hours, but for "the entire infrastructure," says Peter Wondraschek, deputy. VRÖ chairman. In general, the question arises as to what investments the retailer will have to make and which system should be decided on. Whether VRÖ information days or newsletters, the association members are “in any case optimally informed,” emphasizes Secretary General Renate Okermüller.
There will be another information event on the subject of TPMS in September. VRÖ chairman James Tennant appeals to companies to get TPMS ready as quickly as possible and sees an opportunity “in selling our services”.
Topic: Compulsory summer tires in Italy – a kind of “summer tire compulsory” has been in force in Italy since May 15th. Since then it has been forbidden to drive with certain winter tires (M&S). For the VRÖ, a summer tire requirement would be “the logical consequence” of the winter tire requirement (keyword: speed index). However, it is unrealistic that this would be introduced legally in Austria.
