Polestar reiterates growth strategy
Polestar has released a second teaser image of the upcoming electric performance SUV Polestar 3, due to be unveiled in 2022. Polestar 3 is not only the company's first SUV, but also the first Polestar vehicle to be built in the USA. “We will build in America for Americans,” says Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. “Polestar 3 is scheduled to be launched in 2022 and will be a premium electric performance SUV that will define the design of SUVs in the electric age.”
Thomas Ingenlath hosted a series of events in New York to present Polestar's vision, brand and growth goals. The audience learned that Polestar 3 will be one of the most climate-friendly cars of all time. Equipped with the industry-leading LiDAR sensor from the US technology company Luminar and central NVIDIA computing power, it will enable autonomous driving on the highway. The premium SUV market is the fastest-growing segment in the U.S. automotive industry and is expected to be the fastest moving area to all-electric vehicles.
Polestar Precept, the company's manifesto concept vehicle that previews the future of Polestar's design, technology and sustainability, also made its debut in New York City.
Ingenlath told the audience that he believes there is a fundamental difference between Polestar and many other electric car companies. "We are not a virtual company waiting to build factories and sell cars. We are a real company that is already producing and marketing cars around the world. Our two award-winning vehicles are on the roads of 14 markets worldwide and we expect to sell around 29,000 vehicles this year." He also highlighted the company's established production and sales capabilities and explained that Polestar plans to launch a new vehicle every year for the next three years, starting with the Polestar 3. The brand will also expand its presence to at least 30 global markets by the end of 2023.
By expanding into new markets, launching three new vehicles and further expanding existing markets, Polestar plans to increase global sales tenfold from around 29,000 vehicles in 2021 to 290,000 vehicles in 2025. “From now on, Polestar is all about growth,” concluded Thomas Ingenlath. The Polestar 3 is built at a Volvo Cars factory in Charleston, South Carolina. Volvo Cars is a major shareholder in Polestar, enabling the brand to benefit from the Swedish company's world-leading safety technologies and achieve cost efficiencies through financial and industrial synergies.
