NGK celebrates its 40th birthday
In October 1979, the expanding Japanese automotive and technical ceramics specialist NGK Spark Plug founded its second European subsidiary in Germany. This new headquarters complemented the company's existing foreign branches in England and the USA and became a springboard for supplying neighboring countries. In 1989, the former German headquarters officially took over the Europe-wide activities under the current name NGK Spark Plug Europe GmbH. Growth continued in 2017 as it expanded its scope to the Middle East and Africa with the aim of strengthening its position in the key EMEA region. Today the company is a major supplier of spark plugs and lambda sensors, glow plugs, ignition coils, ignition cables and various sensor technologies, which already account for two-thirds of NGK Spark Plug's total OE sales in EMEA.
