NGK expands spark plug range
World-leading ignition and sensor specialist NGK Spart Plug has expanded its aftermarket offering with the launch of 13 new spark plugs for passenger cars. All new spark plugs are offered in the Laser Iridium, Laser Platinum and Iridium IX precious metal series. In addition, almost all new launches follow NGK's OE business.
The combined range expansion represents a growing sales opportunity for aftermarket customers as the new spark plugs have been specifically developed for many of the best-selling models from manufacturers such as Audi, Honda, Volvo, Toyota and Land Rover. The vehicle volume of the new applications is expected to cover a vehicle fleet of more than 1.8 million vehicles by 2024 - this corresponds to an increase of 32 percent within the next two years.
Eleven of the new models are double-precious metal spark plugs, which ensure maximum wear resistance. In addition, they offer excellent ignitability through the use of fine center electrodes. Three of these, all laser iridium types following NGK's OE business, are being offered to the aftermarket for the first time: the reference SILKR7H8 fits Mitsubishi's Eclipse Cross 1.5 applications; SILKGR9A7EG serves several Porsche Boxster and Cayman 2.5 engines; and the ILNFR7A7G is the ideal spark plug for Opel Insignia 2.0 models.
One of the new Laser Iridium spark plugs alone, ILZKAR8J8SY, is responsible for an extraordinary number of current Volvo and Honda applications, including the best-selling Volvo XC60 2.0 (both petrol and plug-in hybrid) and the Honda CR-V 1.5 VTEC.
The reference SILZKAR8G7Y is another new introduction and covers the popular Land Rover Defender, Discovery, Evoque and Range Rover models since March 2017. Additionally, the DILKAR7B8, DILKAR8J9G and ILZKAR7E11S laser iridium spark plugs fit a range of Subaru, Toyota and Honda applications, while the LTR6BP13 and PFR7S11EG laser platinum spark plugs enable ignition of Ford and Audi models.
