New intelligent tire technology from Goodyear

Goodyear Sightline aims to help enable seamless, safe and reliable mobility for all vehicles. Initially, the solution will be offered for vehicles used in trades, construction or last-mile deliveries.

Later this year will Goodyear Sightline also offered to Goodyear's original equipment customers and the growing market of fleet and mobility providers. Goodyear Sightline is initially available in North America and Europe. The system uses sensors coupled with cloud-based algorithms to communicate with fleet operators in real time.

Goodyear's predictive maintenance technologies can help address many of the challenges drivers and fleet managers face today. This includes predicting impending tire failures and the associated reduction in downtime. Tire pressure and wear are continuously monitored, resulting in greater safety and cost efficiency.

“Similar to smartwatches that monitor vital signs such as heart rate and blood oxygen levels, the Goodyear Sightline intelligent tire solution monitors the health of a tire,” said Chris Helsel, senior vice president of global operations and chief technology officer at Goodyear. "Goodyear Sightline provides proactive mobility insights - eliminating guesswork about tire status. Companies receive actionable information about when tires need service or replacement."

Goodyear has accumulated billions of test miles of tire solutions based on Goodyear Sightline through pilot programs. With the market launch, the manufacturer is laying the foundation for a connected tire future in which every tire offers smart intelligence. Goodyear has set itself the goal of equipping all new tires with intelligent functions by 2027. In the future, Goodyear Sightline technology will provide feedback not only about the tire but also about road conditions, enabling connected, autonomous mobility. Initial tests have already shown that integrating Goodyear Sightline technology into a vehicle's control system can reduce braking distance loss by 30 percent.
