The B2B online platform Alzura Tyre24 conducted a large survey to better understand the purchasing behavior of commercial dealers for the various product areas. Almost 9,000 retailers were surveyed, primarily on topics relating to procurement and purchasing and the associated challenges.

The respondents

The majority of dealers surveyed are owners (75%) and over 40 years old (69%), 23 percent of dealers are in the 30-40 age group. When it comes to industry affiliation, independent workshops and tire specialist companies predominate (70%), ahead of branded car dealerships (20%) and car dealers (10%). 17 percent are part of a cooperation or a franchise system. The size of the company for the majority of those surveyed is 2 to 10 employees (45%), 38 percent have fewer than two employees.

The ordering behavior

When it comes to their preferred ordering time, the respondents (70%) do not have a specific time of day. 75 percent of dealers are heavy users who also regularly order vehicle spare parts, 25 percent show seasonal purchasing behavior. When asked about the general frequency of online orders, 58 percent of retailers said they always order online. 17 percent order online several times a day, 7 percent once a day, and another 7 percent more than once a week. 98 percent of online orders use a laptop or PC. Smartphones are used by 21.4 percent of respondents and only 7 percent use tablets. If retailers need additional product information, the majority ask their fellow retailers (68%). 63 percent of those surveyed make inquiries on the Internet.

The purchase

93.9 percent of respondents buy tires from Alzura Tire24. Alloy wheels and automotive spare parts come in second, purchased by approximately 60 percent of retailers surveyed. When shopping, the majority of retailers (74%) have a brand preference. The respondents’ deciding factors for using the platform are: “attractive prices”, “a platform for tires, rims, parts and accessories” and “breadth of the range”.
