The increasing networking of modern vehicles with the Internet and with each other as well as the introduction of semi-autonomous driving functions require new measures regarding data security. Vehicle manufacturers are therefore working on new security concepts to prevent hacker attacks on vehicle data and electronics as much as possible. Similar to the firewall for computers, the 'Carwall' will protect modern vehicles from unauthorized access in the future. As a result, the open data flow via the OBD interface will also be severely restricted. The usual scope will then be reserved exclusively for authenticated technicians.

Hella Gutmann customers don't have to worry. As with previous changes to technical framework conditions caused by new vehicle technologies or laws, Hella Gutmann will also be able to offer a practical solution for the new task. The implementation of a corresponding new function in the mega macs software aims to enable users of Hella Gutmann diagnostic devices to diagnose future vehicle models to the usual extent and in a legal manner. FCA, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, has already started integrating a so-called security gateway in its latest models. Other manufacturers are considering similar security concepts for future model series. Hella Gutmann is therefore developing a workshop-friendly solution to implement corresponding authentication functions in the mega macs software. These are made available as part of software updates. Nothing is yet known about the exact implementation date.
