FCA models can be read again
With the Security Pass System, MAGNETI MARELLI has developed a tool with which independent workshops can fully read out FCA models again with their equipment.

FCA models can be read again
Since mid-2017, Fiat Chrysler has installed a security gateway system in almost all vehicles. This means that the vehicles can no longer be easily read as part of an inspection or necessary repair. In order to enable qualified workshops to carry out a complete diagnosis in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements in the future, Magneti Marelli has developed the Security Pass System, which is also easily compatible with testers from other brands. The Security Pass is also an interesting tool for fleet managers of FCA vehicles and workshops.
ONLINE ACCESS REQUIRED
The Security Pass makes it possible to unlock the SGW control unit and thus gain access to all necessary diagnostic data as well as to communicate openly with the vehicle control units. This provides the tester with functions such as reading and deleting the error memory, changing system settings, activating additional functions and the service reset. To do this, the workshop must log on to the FCA service website ( www.technicalinformation. fiat.com) and take out a usage subscription. The cost is currently one euro for 24 hours. Along the way, security certificates are exchanged over the Internet, which enable full access.
EQUIPMENT CAN STAY
"Secured diagnostic access means more work for the workshops when it comes to diagnosis. We have therefore developed a solution that is as functional as possible and at the same time cost-efficient," says Gianluca Altavini, product manager at Magneti Marelli Aftermarket. "Our Security Pass system is compatible with most commercially available diagnostic devices. It is not necessary to purchase new devices. The workshop can continue to use its usual devices. Our system is therefore more cost-effective than many other solutions." For vehicle diagnostics, the security pass is connected to the vehicle and connected to a computer via a USB port. An included Y-cable allows connection to a diagnostic tester and thus the execution of all available and active functions. As soon as the notebook has been connected to the Internet and the FCA service site has been accessed, the SGW system can be unlocked. The tester can then proceed to fully diagnose the vehicle as usual. (red)
