The German mobility service provider movelo plans to soon offer e-bikes as replacement vehicles in Austria.

Around 35,000 e-bikes were sold in Austria in 2011 - in 2021 there were already over 220,000, and the trend is rising. The international electric bicycle trend is not leaving the automotive industry unscathed, as evidenced by the numerous car dealerships, workshops and service partners that include e-bikes in their sales range or offer them to customers as replacement or rental vehicles. One of the first replacement mobility concepts of this kind comes from the fleet specialist movelo, which currently provides around 6,000 e-bikes for company and municipal fleets in Austria and Germany, among others.
“The demand for e-bikes used for business purposes has increased steadily in recent years,” says Herbert Ottenschläger, Head of Sales at movelo. The company supplies institutions of all sizes and types - from medium-sized businesses to urban universities - with solutions for mobility using e-bikes, including the associated charging infrastructure and full service. Solutions that have attracted increasing interest from automotive businesses such as workshops and car dealerships over the last year. “Companies that already offer services and products in the area of private individual mobility can particularly benefit from e-bikes as a means of mobility of the future,” explains Ottenschläger.
The first corporate e-bikes rolled not on German, but on Austrian roads - for more than five years, the Kepler University Hospital has been relying on movelo's electric bikes to connect its locations in Linz sustainably and efficiently. Companies from all over the country are now using the mobility concept from Bavaria. There are also already plans for vehicle repair shops and car dealers, as Herbert Ottenschläger explains: "We are already in discussions with some Austrian companies in the automotive sector. Our e-bikes will soon be used for replacement mobility in this country too." Because, says the movelo sales manager: “The corporate e-bikes are extremely well received – there is no sign of any fear of contact at the interface between car and bike.”
