The world championship of car glass makers has been decided
Dragan Meljancic started the race for Carglass Austria. The father of three has been preparing for the competition since the beginning of April. At the World Cup he finally competed against the 28 best fitters from the numerous national companies of the Carglass parent company Belron.
The fitters had to demonstrate their skills and expertise in a two-day competition. This includes the repair and replacement of a windshield, the replacement of side and rear windows and the recalibration of a driver assistance system, but also service quality in accordance with the Belron Group's demanding standards. Care, sensitivity and skill, but of course also efficiency and speed, were the decisive criteria. In the so-called Mistery category, the Austrian finalist even performed best. The aim here was to separate the wheat from the chaff when vacuuming the vehicle and not to overlook small valuables such as rings or keys.
Gary Lubner, CEO of Belron, was impressed: “All participants demonstrated incredible skills and enormous resilience throughout the competition and achieved extraordinary things.”
The auto glass industry world championship “Best of Belron” has been an established institution for over 20 years. After demanding preliminary decisions and almost six months of intensive preparation, the ultimately victorious American Joe Milligan has now joined the ranks of global champions from countries such as Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and the USA. As a special recognition of his achievements, he will now receive the prestigious title “Best of Belron” and the prize of an annual salary.
Meljancic is also enthusiastic: "I am proud that I was able to represent Austria at this World Championship. The competition was tough, but simply an unforgettable experience. I congratulate Joe and look forward to continuing to bring the spirit, my skills and my expertise to Carglass Austria to train our new fitters and continue to delight our customers."
The “Best of Belron” took place in Barcelona on June 29th and 30th with more than 1,000 visitors, including key customers, suppliers, shareholders, media representatives and Belron employees from around the world. The 29 fitters who won a national preliminary round to qualify fought for the international title.
The major event was accompanied by a partner conference. Renowned speakers and internationally recognized experts discussed topics such as urbanization, sustainability and autonomous driving as well as other trends in the automotive industry and the future of mobility in keynotes and panel discussions.
