Classic Rally with Siems & Klein

Around 50 magnificent vintage cars, which have at least 30 years of sparkling history under their belt, gathered on a wonderful summer day in mid-June in Mariazell for the start of the first Siems & Klein Classic. Managing director Martin Brachmann welcomed all participants including their accompaniment and dedicated the event to his father, who died this year, with whom he had conceived the idea for the classic car rally. The automotive treasures included a Lotus Esprit S4 from 1993, a Jaguar coupe from 1951, a VW Beetle convertible and the historic Golf family represented, among other things, by a 2 Series GTI and the special “Country” model with permanent Syncro all-wheel drive.

Special tests and award ceremony

The beautiful, winding route led through the “Kalte Kuchl” to the Furtner inn, where we had lunch. A total of seven “special tests” had to be completed, which included estimating the axle load as well as target braking, throwing rubber boots and identifying tools using the sense of touch. The last special test was the dusty forest road to the Harzberg in Bad Vöslau, which had to be completed at exactly 12 km/h, which was actually not an easy exercise. After all participants and their vehicles reached the finish undamaged, there was an award ceremony and dinner. Martin Brachmann congratulated the best placed and thanked his large team, who had contributed with great commitment to the success of the Siems & Klein Classic. “I’m very happy that everyone seemed to have a lot of fun,” said Brachmann, and continued: “From today’s perspective, the plan is to expand the Siems & Klein Classic into an annual event.”
