Castrol supplies its own EV gear oil

Castrol has launched ON EV gear oils, two products specifically designed for use in contract and independent workshops and certified to work on electrified vehicle drive systems (EV). The two new products – in the D1 and D2 variants – are available in five-liter canisters and are suitable for a variety of electric vehicles. They are intended to help extend the lifespan of the drive system and want to enable electric vehicles to travel further on one charge.

The new product is a fully synthetic fluid for gearboxes of dry electric motors, which is intended to offer a high level of gearbox and bearing protection.

According to Castrol, two out of three of the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers use Castrol ON for their factory fill.

“As more and more electric vehicles enter the service market, more vehicle manufacturers have asked us to provide their workshop partners with an advanced EV transmission fluid to support ongoing repair and maintenance work,” comments Patrick Bauer – Castrol Senior Technologist PD Driveline & EV Fluids.

"While these fluids are considered 'fill for life' in some electric vehicles, workshops require a replacement product in the event of a repair. It may also be necessary to change the product early to ensure protection in certain applications. We have worked very closely with selected vehicle manufacturers and suppliers to develop, test and use products that meet the required performance criteria," summarizes Patrick Bauer.
