In the 2022 summer tire test, the ARBÖ, together with its German partner clubs GTÜ and ACE, tested cheaper brand tires in the size 195/55 R16. These are particularly often used on small cars, a vehicle class that is very popular in Austria. In 2021 alone, around 45,000 vehicles were registered for use in the small and micro car segment.

The Kleber Dynaxer HP4 performed best, missing the “highly recommended” rating by just a single point with a total number of points of 134. But the adhesive can also be described as the test winner in this year’s ARBÖ summer tire test with “recommended”. And with good reason: The Dynaxer HP 4 can win all three chapter ratings and delivers acceptable values on all road surfaces.

The Uniroyal Rainsport5 comes in second with 126 points, coming closer to the test winner on wet roads than on dry roads. Above all, the braking performance could be better. The Falken ZIEX ZE310 Ecorun secured third place, although it works better on wet and dry roads than the second-placed Uniroyal, but in the “Environment/Economy” chapter it achieved the worst rating of the entire test field with 19 points. However, if louder rolling noises don't bother you, the Falken is a good choice; the driving and braking values are good, which absolutely justifies a "recommended" rating.

Two tires failed this year's summer tire test: The Tristar Ecopower 4 and the Barum Bravuris 5HM were little to no convincing, especially in the brake test, which is probably the most important test category. "Our test shows that the quality of cheap brand tires is still a bit away from the level of high-quality brand tires. You shouldn't necessarily save money here, even if cheap tires are just enough for everyday use. At the limit, the differences become clear," says Erich Groiss, technical coordinator at ARBÖ.
