By integrating an eye safety lock into the VCSEL lighting module, ams OSRAM has found a new way to provide added value to automotive customers. ams OSRAM's VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) food illuminator from the TARA2000-AUT family was selected for the new, improved version of the EVK75027 iToF sensing kit because it features an integrated eye safety lock. This enables a more compact, reliable and faster system implementation than other VCSEL flood illuminators that require external photodiode and processing circuitry. The evaluation kit provides a full hardware implementation of iToF depth measurement, enabling automotive OEMs to run software for interior monitoring systems such as human detection and gesture sensing.
