Speed record when replacing windshields

Workshops are increasingly aware of the risk of being held responsible for an incorrectly set front camera," says Rudolf Weismann, founder and customer advisor of Lack & Technik. The problem with replacing a windshield: During the drying process of a standard adhesive, the glass can shift slightly and thus disrupt the correct functioning of lane keeping or high beam assistants. "More and more vehicles have windshield cameras, and the calibration effort in the workshop is increasing," says Weismann. An experience that master plumber and painter Bernhard Lederer from Raiffeisen Lagerhaus Korneuburg confirms. “We sell cars from the Peugeot, Nissan, Subaru, Opel and Suzuki brands and also carry out calibration after a window replacement, which varies in terms of effort depending on the brand.” For a Peugeot, a calibration drive must be carried out at exactly 80 km/h over several kilometers on well-marked roads, while the cameras of Subaru vehicles are adjusted in the workshop using calibration boards.

Special glue brings advantages

PowerCure is the name of the innovative window adhesive system from Sika, sold by Lack & Technik, which consists of an adhesive with booster paste and the matching dispenser. “This speeds up the assembly of the pane enormously, because after just an hour the pane is glued so firmly that we can start calibrating,” enthuses Bernhard Lederer. In fact, the adhesive cures to OEM level in just 60 minutes from minus ten degrees. In comparison, a standard adhesive takes around four to five days.
Alois Brandstetter from Brandstetter GmbH in Artstetten is also enthusiastic about the PowerCure system with its short drying times. Likewise his industry colleagues from the metalworking company Traxler in Brand, from Kfz-Autoglas Pichler-Holzinger in Desselbrunn or from Autoglas König in Leonding. “As a window specialist with a throughput of over 1,000 windows per year, we have no alternative to the Sika PowerCure system,” says Autoglas König managing director Inge König, also praising the reliable support from the paint & technology field service.
