A freshly restored VW Beetle from the 1950s shines in its original color in the middle of the spacious workshop hall in Schwechat near Vienna. “Pay attention to the clean painting of the sheet metal parts behind the ventilation grille,” says Andreas Kutics, who runs PB CarKosmetik Gmbh as managing director together with founder Petra Brunhölzl. He is visibly proud of his painting experts, some of whom he poached from his former employer Denzel. The entire team consists of 15 employees, and the car beauticians repair or beautify around 500 vehicles every year. “We have the best people and the most modern paint technology – that’s an unbeatable combination,” emphasizes company founder Petra Brunhölzl, and the perfect paint job on the Volkswagen classic, which she sits behind the wheel for a photo, proves her right.

However, the majority of the work volume of car cosmeticians is made up of body repairs and refinishing of conventional vehicles. “Accidents, paint damage or hail dents are our daily business,” explains co-managing director Andreas Kutics. Owners of luxury sports cars from Maserati, Porsche and Ferrari also occasionally frequent the Schwechat beauty salon. “We used to have the painting done outside, but for the last six months we have brought the painting in-house - so we have the best control over the entire beautification process,” explains Petra Brunhölzl. Andreas Kutics already appreciated the all-round service offered by paint partner Glasurit at Denzel and has now brought Denzel on board in Schwechat. “Not only is the quality of the paints right, but also the range of accessories and the processes involved in finding the color,” he says. The car cosmeticians particularly appreciate the worry-free package provided by Glasurit specialist consultant Thomas Dani. “If there is a technical problem with the paint mixing system or if we run out of a certain color – Mr. Dani ensures that all problems are solved quickly,” says Kutics happily. His ultra-modern paint booth, which comes from the Styrian company Umwelttech, is very busy. The exact recipe of the color tone is determined beforehand using the portable Glasurit color tone measuring device Ratio Scan II. The device measures the exact color directly on the body and transmits the measurement results wirelessly to the workshop PC, which further processes the data with the Glasurit Profit Manager or Glasurit Profit Manager Pro. To be on the safe side, the painter checks the color determined by the Ratio Scan II with the corresponding color piping from the Glasurit Color Profi system. Ultimately, no machine can 100 percent replace the trained eye and instinct of an experienced painter.
