Sata helps with color matching

For an optimized painting process in the workshop, all work steps should ideally be coordinated with one another. It often happens that the vehicle or vehicle parts to be painted are already in the paint booth and only then does the color selection begin. The result is complex and time-consuming maneuvering work. It is therefore all the more important to carry out the color tone determination at the right time so that the processes are not disrupted. In the best case scenario, the customer service advisor should already have an eye on the color of the vehicle. Light silver and effect colors require special attention - sometimes even seemingly inconspicuous colors such as red or yellow can be quite complex to paint. The close cooperation between the customer service advisor and the master painter is an advantage here. Ideally, the customer service advisor points out the color at this point, but at the latest when the order is handed over between the body repair and paint shop, so that the color selection can begin.

LIGHT AS A KEY

High-quality light (daylight) such as that of the Sata trueSun is very important when selecting and determining the color, as a wrong decision would result in time-consuming and costly repainting. Depending on the object to be painted, this would cost an average of around 350 euros per vehicle part. Not to mention angry customers who later receive their repaired vehicle and the complex reorganization of the workflow in the paint shop. Overall, the purchase costs are amortized after just two to three incorrect paint jobs. An inferior light source that does not cover the entire spectrum of daylight is not suitable for color testing because the nuances of a color code cannot be distinguished from one another. The price differences between a high-quality and a low-quality light source are very small: an average of 150 euros. It's not just the brightness of the light that plays an important role, but also the color of the light, etc. a. the correspondence of the light spectrum with natural daylight (sunlight). A cone of light that shines evenly over the entire illuminated area is also helpful, as is a long-lasting battery with a short charging time. Once the color has been determined, the color samples can be created and compared again with the original paintwork for checking purposes.

PRO TIP

It is advisable to store the color sample cards with all important information such as color code and variant (or the label from the printer of the mixing system with the formula), clear coat name, spray gun type (HVLP/RP), nozzle size, inlet flow pressure and the number of spray passes on and with the work order.
