Revolution in the spray booth”
With 750 participants from German-speaking countries, the AKZONOBEL MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE Frankfurt was completely booked out. According to AkzoNobel technical director Armin Dürr, the brand new Paint PerformAir represents a “revolution in the spray booth”.

Revolution in the spray booth”
Under the motto "Future! Is made from ideas," Benjamin Burkhard (Sales Manager VR DACH) emphasized that the diverse and drastic changes in the industry should be viewed as an opportunity. “The key to success is and remains the craftsmanship of the companies,” says Burkhard. Electric mobility and autonomous driving in particular would create fundamentally different framework conditions. By 2030, AkzoNobel expects a market share of between seven and twelve percent when it comes to e-mobility. Burkhard also addressed the topic of climate protection in his lecture. AkzoNobel currently wants to implement a CO2 campaign together with its customers. One focus will be on redesigning ordering and delivery behavior, i.e. delivery dates should be made more efficient. The savings achieved would benefit the organization “Plant-for-the-Planet”, which counteracts climate change through global and local reforestation.
ACOAT SELECTED
"With Acoat Selected we want to support you in change. We are all in the same boat," emphasized Kai Gräper (Acoat Selected Manager DACH). The end customer portal fahrzeug-repair.com is to be revised together with the advisory board. Gräper would like all companies to be involved by 2022. The Global Automotive Service (GAS) damage control system, which has been expanded to include “body and paint”, will also be transferred to Austria. The aim is to increase the number of partner companies from the current 34 to 100 in the DACH region by 2022. For 2020 the focus is on “Intense”. The goal is to have 180 companies by 2022.

PAINT PERFORMAIR
The highlight of the AkzoNobel management conference was the unveiling of the Paint PerformAir by Armin Dürr, Technical Manager VR DACH. “We have to prepare for investments,” said Dürr, pointing to the constant need for further education, training and new tools. The cost structure in the company is currently as follows: six to eleven percent for paint and materials, 45 to 50 percent for personnel, six to eight percent for energy and 30 to 35 percent for spare parts. Capacity utilization and efficiency in operations are essential. The new Paint PerformAir is a “revolution in the spray booth”. In addition to the antistatic effect, the compressed air is heated to up to 40 degrees. The temperature is kept constant and less overspray is possible. "By adding moisture, you are de facto independent of the environment. In addition, better sprayability is ensured and warming up the cabin is no longer necessary," explained Dürr. The Paint PerformAir consumes around 30 cents of energy per day per device. Sales manager Daniel Kapeller has currently reserved 20 pieces for Austria. The automotive industry finally had the opportunity to take a look at the Mobilack body and painting center in Darmstadt. Master painter Veikko Oettershagen describes his experiences with Paint PerformAir: "Firstly, it creates and maintains charge-free surfaces, it tempers and humidifies the compressed air and makes me more independent of the ambient temperature and the existing humidity. The potential for savings, for example in terms of finishing costs, is enormous," says Oettershagen.
