BASF: The ecological balance
BASF Coatings officially presented its new generation of clear coats with ChemCycling technology at Automechanisa 2024 in September. The product ranges made from recycled raw materials are offered under BASF's premium brands Glasurit and R-M and increase the efficiency and productivity of paint shops. “The products not only contribute to the circular economy, but also to the reduction of CO2 emissions,” explains marketing manager Claudia Roider. The clear coats Glasurit AraClass A-C-24 Eco Balance and R-M Race Finish-R eSense from BASF Coatings are the first automotive refinish products based on the new technology; they bring advantages for both paint shops and the environment. In addition, the drying speed of the clear coats has been increased. The coating now dries at 40 °C in just 20 minutes, significantly increasing the processing speed. "In contrast to the competition, our clear coats are based on pure polyurethane. The advantage is greater elasticity and therefore better resistance to stone chips," explains BASF technician Benjamin Buchheister. In addition to the ChemCycling clearcoats, BASF introduced new mixed coatings of the water-based basecoats from Glasurit Series 100 and R-M Agilis, which reduce CO2 emissions by up to 50%.
