Axalta honored for clever ideas
Named after Thomas Alva Edison, the Edison Awards have recognized some of the world's most innovative new products, services and business leaders since 1987. This year Axalta won big.

Axalta honored for clever ideas

Three bronze ones Edison Awards Axalte was able to win this year. However, the areas of application are sometimes a bit surprising.
Axalta's LiDAR Gonio-Reflectometer System (ALGRS) was recognized in the Innovative Services category. This patented optical system measures the LiDAR reflectivity of vehicle paint for driver assistance systems or autonomous vehicles. Using ALGRS, Axalta's chemists and designers can develop LiDAR-compatible paints without compromising appearance or color. Driver assistance systems such as emergency braking and avoidance systems rely heavily on LiDAR technology to improve vehicle safety and advance autonomous vehicles. The novel paint analysis provided by ALGRS enables the development of new colors and paint formulations. These ensure that painted coatings can be easily detected by LiDAR systems under a wide range of traffic conditions in the field of autonomous driving.
In the sustainability category, Axaltas Spies Hecker Permahyd 5650 Sealer (not available from us) was awarded. The sealant offers repair shops in North America a sustainable, water-based premium application system with lower solvent emissions. Axalta's Spies Hecker Permahyd 5650 Sealer is applied in a single coat to help refinishers increase productivity.
Axalta's Universal Titan Primer and Enamel Coat also won bronze in the Engineering and Materials Science category. Designed for kitchen cabinet manufacturers, this paint offers processing efficiency and a high-quality appearance. Compared to the traditional four coats, only one coat of primer and enamel coating is required. Universal Titan has also been optimized to eliminate the need to use two separate products for horizontal and vertical applications. This saves costs and simplifies the manufacturing process.
