Good business with campers
Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, there has been a real boom among campers, which continues two years later as restrictions fall. In addition to the increase in the number of overnight stays booked, holidaymakers from Austria are willing to pay higher rent for their caravans. This is shown by current figures from CamperDays, a global booking platform for motorhomes and campervans, which the company collected on the occasion of this year's summer business. The average order value from Austria in 2022 is 3,157 euros, with Austrians booking trips with an average length of 16 days.
The most popular travel destinations this year were the USA. Here, 26 percent of CamperDays customers rented a motorhome and spent an average of 4,125 euros on their booking. The second most popular travel destination for Austrian camping enthusiasts is the United Kingdom, which accounts for 13 percent of all bookings and where vacationers rented a motorhome for an average of 2,305 euros. The neighboring country Germany is in third place with 12 percent of bookings and an average booking price of 1,826 euros. But even in Austria, motorhome holidays continue to enjoy increasing demand. Compared to the time before the corona pandemic, travelers in Austria are willing to spend 71 percent more on their camper. This corresponds to an increase from 1,565 euros to 2,671 euros. The study also shows a 40 percent increase in willingness to pay per day from 84 to 118 euros. In addition, the travel time of CamperDays customers increased by five days compared to 2019. Conclusion: Motor vehicle workshops also benefit indirectly from the increased demand and mileage of camping mobiles, as the vehicles require regular maintenance and occasional repairs.
