Dongfeng BOX fails crash test
In the ÖAMTC's new Euro NCAP crash test, the Dongfeng BOX performed significantly worse than comparable electric cars. ÖAMTC technician Thomas Hava explains where the Dongfeng's biggest weaknesses lie: "In a frontal crash against another car, several welded joints in the body structure failed. This is a serious problem because the resulting deformation of the passenger cell can pose a massive danger to the occupants." The problem was discovered during a crash test against a mobile barrier, simulating a collision with another car at 50 km/h. Hava assumes that the risk of fatal injuries would increase massively at higher speeds.
Other models such as the BMW X3, Audi Q3, Mazda 6e and Cadillac Optiq achieved five stars. The Chinese manufacturer Chery was also able to achieve the best rating after revising its TIGGO models.
