Protection against cybercrime

The vehicle trade committee and the mechatronics and metal technology guilds invited people to a lecture entitled “The Dark Web Threat”. Expert Joseph Riedinger took a foray into the world of the Dark Web and gave practical tips for entrepreneurs on how to protect themselves from the dangers lurking in cyberspace. Riedinger headed the Cybercrime Unit of the Lower Austria State Criminal Police Office for several decades and gained experience in the field of digital forensics and in the processing of cybercrime offenses. He is also a lecturer at the Wiener Neustadt University of Applied Sciences in the area of “White-Collar Crime & Cybercrime”.

Peter Merten, Mechatronics Guild Master and his deputy Sonja Reumüller were also among the listeners. Joseph Riedinger gave an exciting overview of common blackmail methods and other criminal acts of hackers, who have long been targeting small and medium-sized companies with virus attacks. To protect yourself from such machinations, experts advise you to go through the following checklist:

  • Wie sensibel gehe ich im Internet mit meinen Firmendaten um?
  • Wie sicher sind die von mir gewählten Passwörter?
  • Wie vertrauenswürdig sind meine E-Mails?
  • Wie sicher sind Internetzahlungen?
  • Wie gehen Cyberkriminelle vor, und was kann mit den erbeuteten Daten geschehen?
  • Wie sichere ich mein Unternehmen gegen existenzbedrohende Cyberattacken ab?

Joseph Riedinger managed to present the seriousness of the topic in an entertaining and informative manner; he was rewarded with applause from the audience at the end of his lecture. Comment from Vienna Guild managing director Leonhard Palden: “Really super exciting!”
