Growth in the two-wheeler market
Despite numerous challenges, the industry managed to slightly increase its sales last year.

Growth in the two-wheeler market
Arge 2Rad, the umbrella association of Austrian two-wheeler importers and the two-wheeler industry, is satisfied with the total registrations for 2024. The single-track motor vehicle is still an integral part of individual transportation. Although the economic situation in Austria - and not only there - was not positive in 2024 and many companies are struggling due to current purchasing power data and the challenges in the future, the industry has managed to slightly increase its market. From January to November 2024, a total of 47,147 two-wheelers were newly registered, which corresponds to an increase of 3.2 percent compared to the previous year. "The EU is increasingly confronting the industry with new tasks and requirements. Meeting these often pushes many companies to their limits," says Karin Munk, Secretary General of the 2Rad consortium. "But our customers are loyal, they are patient and they love our vehicles. That cannot be taken for granted and we have to thank you for that," Munk continued.
E-two-wheelers are catching up
When it comes to electromobility, two-wheelers provide important ecological impulses. The electromobility bonus is an important incentive tool and the 2Rad consortium hopes that the new government will continue to focus on a clean, climate-friendly and electric future and will continue to make this funding possible. “The development is particularly satisfactory in urban areas, and we also see a lot of potential for electric two-wheelers in rural regions - for the way to the train station or to work, or as a replacement for the second car,” says Munk. "Young people are very aware of the issue of decarbonization. Electromobility guarantees this target group a clear conscience and their individuality." If you switch to a 125cc scooter and do without the car, that means a saving of ¾ of your Co2 emissions.
Forecast 2025
According to Arge 2Rad's estimates, the current year will continue to be stable or possibly slightly declining. If you look at the current rhythm of the last few years, the scooter market in the 125ccm range will recover and increase again. Euro 5 is completed. “Our industry has proven to be extremely resilient to crises in recent years,” says Munk. The industry is starting the new trade fair year with a lot of enthusiasm: From February 7th to 9th, 2025, Wels will once again be a mecca for all motorcycle and scooter fans. In cooperation with Arge2Rad, Messe Wels invites you to “moto-austria” for the third time and promises a weekend full of premieres, innovations and highlights. "We are convinced that the entire motorcycle, scooter and moped industry will once again delight the public on more than 27,000 m². The Wels location covers the entire federal territory well for the industry and we know that more and more two-wheeler lovers are not afraid of a possibly longer journey and are happy to visit us," says Hubert Trunkenpolz, chairman of the 2Rad association.
