Unterberger cooperates with Thum

The traditional Thum car dealership in Lienz has decided for strategic reasons to enter into a 50 percent partnership with Unterberger Automobile. The participation comes into effect retroactively from August 1, 2023. The new ownership structure has no impact on the operational business. Anton Thum will continue to lead the company as managing director as usual. All 38 employees will be taken on. “As part of a larger group, our customers, like us, benefit from numerous synergy effects such as a larger range of used cars, purchasing advantages, knowledge transfer, training opportunities and much more,” says Anton Thum. At the same time, the structure of the “small unit” with decision-makers directly on site remains intact.

"By moving to East Tyrol, we can further strengthen our presence in the federal state of Tyrol. In addition, the Lienz district borders on our existing area of ​​activity in Salzburg's Pinzgau," explain the managing partners of Unterberger Automobile, Gerald, Dieter and Fritz Unterberger jun. New for Unterberger is the Fiat brand (passenger cars and light commercial vehicles), the mechanical engineering and engine repair division including the technical office and, above all, the commercial vehicle division over 3.5 t with a truck workshop and the service partnership with MAN and Kuhn Ladetechnik (Palfinger and Epsilon), all of which Thum operates.

Auto Josef Thum GmbH has been on the market for 85 years. Auto Thum Lienz GesmbH recently generated around nine million euros in annual sales from the passenger car, truck and mechanical engineering business areas. Around 200 new and used vehicles were sold in the automobile trade. The spacious 10,000 square meter facility, located in the Lienz industrial area, offers sufficient potential for possible future business developments. The truck test hall is currently being expanded for around 1 million euros. Over the last few decades, the Unterberger family business has developed into one of the largest automobile dealers in Austria and southern Germany. The first car dealership was opened in Kufstein in 1976. Today, the traditional company, which now has 20 locations, sells more than 9,000 new and used cars every year. Even 47 years after its launch, the company is 100 percent family-owned. As managing partners, the brothers Gerald, Dieter and Fritz Unterberger Junior are responsible for the automotive division together with managing director Josef Gruber. In addition, the Unterberger Group has also been active in the real estate, investment and leasing business for more than 40 years.
