Price drop for new electric cars

The market for electric cars in Austria experienced a significant price reduction last year. In 2023, Tesla dominated the market with three of its models in the top 5. The Tesla Model 3 was the most popular electric vehicle with an average price of 42,609 euros, followed by the Model S at 51,251 euros. The Model Y was also in high demand with a price of 55,700 euros. Other manufacturers such as BMW with the i3 (26,967 euros) and Renault with the ZOE (19,501 euros) also took prominent places. While Tesla continues to be strongly represented in 2024, Audi moves into the top 3 with the e-tron (46,698 euros), leaving the previous third-place BMW behind. At the same time, the prices for the Tesla Model 3 (33,437 euros) and Model S (39,863 euros) have fallen by up to 11,390 euros year-on-year. At 45,984 euros, the Model Y is also around 9,700 euros cheaper than in 2023. Renault's ZOE will be offered in 2024 at an average price of 15,739 euros, meaning interested parties had to pay around 3,760 euros less.

Falling used car prices

The most popular used car among Austrians in 2024 was once again the Volkswagen Golf. While the average price for the VW Golf in 2023 was 17,376 euros, it fell to 16,976 euros in 2024. The coveted car cost an average of 400 euros less year-on-year. There were also price adjustments for the preferred Audi models. The Audi A4 was sold for an average of 20,896 euros in 2024, while in 2023 it cost 23,349 euros, i.e. 2,452 euros more. These are the results of the Europe Report 2024 from AutoScout24, Europe's largest online car market. The Europe Report is considered an industry barometer for the European used car trade and is published annually by AutoScout24. "Many car buyers have benefited from the relaxation on the used car market. Falling prices and more supply have characterized the year 2024. However, the price reduction was greatest for electric cars," says Nikolaus Menches, country manager of AutoScout24 in Austria. The Audi 6 has also made it into the top 3 again; the average price has fallen from 31,437 euros to 28,414 euros. A similar trend can be seen with the Audi A3, whose price fell from 22,538 euros in 2023 to 20,684 euros in 2024. The A3 has slipped down one place in popularity. The Škoda Octavia was able to take fourth place in 2024 with a price of 22,474 euros, making it a new addition to the list of the most popular models.
