1st place for VW commercial vehicles
In 2023, the VW Commercial Vehicles brand will increase its sales in all market areas and regain market leadership with a market share of almost 25%. The decisive factors for success were the reduction in order backlogs, full delivery capability, and the market launch of new models such as the new Amarok pickup truck and the electric ID. Buzz Cargo as a sustainable solution in the transport sector.
"From family vans to classic commercial vehicles to outdoor and camping fans, many customers find the right mobility solution with us," says Miriam Walz, brand manager for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, and continues: "In the future, we will position ourselves even more broadly. With the Hybrid 4Motion and other electric variants, we are closing the bridge to electromobility - both in the commercial vehicle and passenger car sectors." The pure commercial vehicle market without buses with a maximum permissible total weight of 0 to 5 tons is on the road to recovery again after the weak market in 2022 (after the introduction of NoVA and the associated early purchases). Compared to 2022, this increased by 8,641 units (+ 39%) to 30,810 new registrations. Almost a quarter of new registrations were for Volkswagen commercial vehicles, which accounted for 24.8% of the market with 7,630 new registrations. This means that VWN not only almost doubles the number of units in its core business, but also moves to the top with a clear lead, followed by its competitors Ford, Mercedes, Renault and Fiat.
Traditionally strong in the passenger car sector at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is the VW bus (3,324 new registrations), which, with a segment share of 48.7%, can claim almost half of the segment. The new Multivan in particular proved to be a hit. In the entire passenger car sector, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will have around 2.7% market share in 2023 with its combustion engine and electric models (buses, Caddy, ID. Buzz) with 6,346 new registrations (+ 6.7%). With 3,022 new registrations (+35.1%), the VW Caddy once again demonstrated its constant popularity as a family, sports and leisure vehicle. When it comes to motorhomes, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also remains clearly at the top in 2023 with 2,314 new registrations (61.1% segment share), well ahead of its competitors. The iconic California models, which have captured the spirit of the times for many years and especially in the current camping boom, continue to prove to be a magnet. Miriam Walz, Brand Manager Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles: "We are pleased that we were able to reach No. 1 in three market areas. A special thank you goes to our trading operations in Austria, who look after our many, loyal customers on a daily basis even under difficult conditions and have thus consistently developed the brand to the top."
