BYD overtakes Tesla
With 1,630 new car registrations and a market share of 2.5% in the first quarter, BYD even overtook Tesla and made Austria the most successful BYD market in all of Europe.

BYD overtakes Tesla
"In the first three months, we were pleased that new registrations more than doubled. After almost 27 months on the market, we are now finally one of the top performers on the market," says Danijel Dzihic, Managing Director BYD Austria. With the BYD Seal and BYD Sealion 7 models, the Chinese brand is among the top 10 electric car bestsellers in Austria and was also able to significantly overtake Tesla in terms of sales. With 704 new registrations, March was the strongest month in the brand's young history in Austria. Overall, 948 more BYD models were newly registered for use in this country in the first quarter of 2025 than in the same period last year. This corresponds to an increase in market share from 1.4 to 2.5% or to 1,630 new registrations in the overall Austrian market. This means that BYD in Austria has the highest BYD market share of the overall market compared to Europe.
High customer satisfaction
In March, BYD Austria achieved the highest customer satisfaction in sales of all European BYD markets and also rose to the top position in Europe in this ranking. Dzihic: "We were particularly pleased with the outstanding NPS result because it represents a direct appreciation of the daily work of our passionate and customer-oriented dealer partners and the solution-oriented importer team. I would like to thank all customers for their trust." As Dzihic emphasizes, the remaining year will be characterized by several new market launches of models with pure electric or plug-in hybrid drives as well as the expansion of the dealer network in Austria: "We are opening new locations in Styria, Salzburg, Lower Austria, Vorarlberg, Tyrol, Carinthia and Burgenland - and we are bringing very interesting models in the B and D segment onto the market. We also want to further promote the localization of the brand in Austria with several projects."
