Run on used hybrids

Between January and August, around 42,500 petrol hybrid cars were newly registered, 19.5 percent more than in the same period last year. Hybrids are therefore in the fast lane, reports Statistics Austria. AutoScout24 is also observing this trend in the current used car price index (AGPI). Demand for hybrid vehicles rose by 30 percent in September. In addition, in an Integral market survey of 500 Austrian drivers, one in five said they would choose a hybrid car when buying a new one. For the trend study, 500 Austrian car owners between the ages of 18 and 69 were surveyed online, representative of this target group. "The upward trend for hybrid vehicles can be observed across Europe and shows consumers' desire to be mobile sustainably. The prices for used hybrid cars are currently on average higher than those for used electric vehicles. The price alone should therefore not be the decisive purchasing argument," says Nikolaus Menches, Country Manager of AutoScout24 in Austria.

The AutoScout24 used car price index (AGPI) illustrates dynamic developments in various vehicle, age and drive segments. Used cars were offered for an average of 27,050 euros in September, 1,144 euros cheaper than at the beginning of the year. The compact class (19,744 euros, demand +19 percent) and small cars (14,669 euros, demand +18 percent) are particularly popular. For SUVs/off-road vehicles with an average price of 34,963 euros, demand increased by 14 percent compared to the previous month. Luxury vehicles and sports cars also recorded price increases of up to 2.7 percent, with sports cars having the highest average price among used cars at 74,210 euros. In the age segments, 10 to 20 year old cars are particularly popular with an average price of 11,355 euros and an increase in demand of 17.5 percent. Vehicles between the ages of 5 and 10 also received significantly more clicks, with an increase in demand of 11.6 percent; the average price here is 23,445 euros.
