According to Statistics Austria, almost half (-48.7%) fewer used cars were registered on the road in March 2020 than in the same month of the previous year.

In January (+3.7%) and February 2020 (+0.1%), used registrations increased compared to the respective month of the previous year. A total of 172,349 used cars were registered in the first quarter of 2020, 16.6% less than in the same quarter of the previous year. Both used diesel cars (share: 61.4%; -17.1%) and used gasoline cars (including flex fuel; share: 36.6%; -17.3%) recorded declines compared to the first quarter of 2019, while alternatively powered cars reached a share of 2.0% and increased by a quarter (+26.2%). All of the top 10 car brands recorded decreases in used registrations in the first quarter of 2020: Skoda -7.4%, Seat -13.0%, Audi -13.8%, BMW -14.5%, Mercedes -14.6%, Renault -15.0%, Ford -16.0%, Peugeot -16.9%, VW -17.0% and Opel -22.4%. When it comes to two-wheelers, fewer used motorcycles (-43.2%) and motorized bicycles (-42.4%) were registered than in the same quarter of the previous year.
