Used electric cars: trade-in and purchase
The successful used car business has always benefited from good market knowledge. The current market situation for used electric vehicles is rather confusing and difficult to assess. This has several reasons. On the one hand, there are manufacturers and importers who adjust sales of new fully electric cars to demand with price promotions without prior notice. And then new, very successful market providers have also come along. BYD alone is really involved. On the other hand, there are used fully electric vehicles that are no longer up to date in terms of technical development. An example is single-phase charging, which does not tolerate a supercharger, but also the significantly weaker battery performance of older used cars. For the used car trade this means: CAUTION when purchasing. Here are a few important tips:
- Kein Ankauf ohne SOC-Test (State of Health Überprüfung, beispielsweise von Aviloo).
The brand-affiliated dealers must, above all, closely monitor new car prices. There are examples where the market price of demonstration cars has fallen by up to 40 percent because better new cars are being sold at cheaper prices. There is a risk of severe losses. Our colleagues from the pure GW trade are better off. The price disruptions caused by marketing campaigns by manufacturers and importers cannot be predicted here either, but in these cases you can switch to e-cars from other manufacturers. Good market knowledge is a crucial advantage.
You should pay particular attention to the manufacturer's guarantees. There are 7, 8 and even 10 year warranties on the very expensive batteries. What you don't have to check so closely when trading in or buying something are the brakes. Thanks to charging or recuperation, electric vehicles have to brake significantly less. The mileage of brakes is therefore at least 50% higher than that of combustion engines.
