Less money for the car

Everything is becoming more expensive, and that has consequences for the household budget. As the current AutoScout24 trend study shows, 6 out of 10 find the price increases somewhat to very stressful. Just 10 percent see themselves as less burdened. This also leads to the red pencil being applied when (driving) the car. For the trend study, Integral market and opinion research surveyed 501 Austrian car owners between the ages of 18 and 69 online in January 2023, representative of this target group. Conclusion: If you save money on your car, you are most likely to do so when you go for a walk. A good third (35 percent) say they take car journeys less often or not at all without a special reason. There are also reductions for everyday journeys that simply have the purpose of getting from A to B. A fifth make fewer or no daily trips by car. People who believe they will use their car less in ten years than they do today reduce such trips more often than average. In this group, 50% limit their walks and a third limit their everyday journeys.

On average, less is saved on trips that serve recreational purposes. 85 percent say that they continue to use the car as usual for weekend excursions. Only those who feel very burdened by inflation limit their travel above average (23 percent reduce excursions). Almost 90 percent continue to use the car to go on vacation. The car is still very popular when shopping or shopping. For these activities, just 13 percent are currently reducing the use of their mobile vehicle. And those who have children tend to stick to the car when picking up their offspring; it is also used less often by only 13 percent.

If you don't want to give up driving yourself, you can find other ways to save. A fifth say they use the car wash less often - this applies to both men and women. Those over 50 are apparently most likely to care about the cleanliness of their car; they hardly save money on car washes. Car maintenance remains important: less frequent service intervals (6 percent) and reducing workshop visits (5 percent) are currently still a minority program.
