The Polish Orlen SA took over Doppler Energie GmbH with its Turmöl brand at the beginning of January 2024.

Turmöl has a new owner

With the takeover, Orlen secures a 100 percent stake in the company with a total of 267 Turmöl filling stations, thereby expanding its network to around 3,500 filling stations in seven European countries (Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Lithuania, Austria). The new Austria managing director Piotr Guział (48) wants to drive growth in Austria. They are now examining further acquisition opportunities in the region and are taking steps to establish themselves as a leading player in the field of electromobility on the Austrian market. An associated market and brand strategy will be completed by the end of Q1 2024.

Guział has been managing director of Orlen Deutschland GmbH for over 3 years, where he is responsible for investments, development of the network, which currently has 607 gas stations, and the establishment of the electromobility division. He will remain in the role parallel to the new position in Austria. In addition to him, the management of Orlen in Austria consists of Ralph Hofmann (Retail), Xavier Genton (Wholesale & Supply) and Thomas Leitner (Finance). All three managers were employed at Doppler Energie before the takeover. Regarding the overall perspective, the Orlen-Austria boss says: "Turmöl is one of the three top players in the Austrian fuel market and has a retail market share of around 10 percent. We will continue to position ourselves as a discount brand and strengthen our market position even further. We will also use my dual role and look for possible synergies with our sister company in Germany."

Orlen now has 267 Turmöl filling stations in Austria, 110 charging points for electric cars at 34 locations, which are operated under the Turmstrom brand. Almost half of the acquired gas stations have self-service facilities. 40 locations are also equipped with solar PV modules. Almost 100 stations have car washes, half of them have convenience stores and around 80 have a catering concept. The acquisition also includes the acquisition of Austrocard, a fuel card provider that serves both private and business customers and is accepted at over 500 locations throughout Austria. “Our main focus will be on expanding the filling station network and further developing electromobility,” explains Piotr Guział.
