In the next three years, over 200 will be added to the current 120 e-charging locations at Spar, Eurospar and Interspar. The network of the Federal Association for Electromobility Austria (BEÖ) is growing faster than ever before. In total, this will create 1,500 new charging points throughout Austria. But the expansion is set to go even further: at least 535 e-charging locations are planned by the end of 2028. The charging stations have a charging capacity of 11 to 150 kW, and there will be up to 6 charging points per location. Spar customers charge at the favorable rates offered by BEÖ members; customers without a charging card can pay by credit card.

"Everyday stops must be able to be used to charge emission-free cars. Buying groceries and filling up the car at the same time - that is the future of mobility," says Hans K. Reisch, Deputy CEO of Spar. Chief Innovation Officer Marcus Wild adds: “We want to give our visitors and customers the opportunity to recharge with the electricity they need to get to us.” Since the length of stay of visitors to SES shopping centers with their Interspar hypermarkets is naturally longer, charging stations with 11 to 22 kW are preferably installed there. “Together with the BEÖ, we are also equipping stand-alone locations on traffic routes with fast charging stations from 50 kW,” says Wild.

Spar is already cooperating with Salzburg AG, Energie Steiermark, llwerke vkw and IKB on charging stations. “By expanding this partnership, we are taking the charging infrastructure in Austria to a new level - nine leading energy suppliers, together with Austria's leading retailer, are making a significant contribution to climate protection,” says Andreas Reinhardt, Chairman of the BEÖ. There are currently around 15,000 publicly accessible charging points in Austria. 8,000 of them in the largest network, the BEÖ network. Over the next three years, a further 1,500 SPAR charging points, powered by renewable energy, will be added. The BEÖ partners for the expansion of the charging infrastructure at Spar, Eurospar and Interspar are: Burgenland Energie, Energie Graz, Energie Steiermark, EVN, Innsbrucker Kommunalbetriebe (IKB), Kelag, LINZ AG, Salzburg AG and illwerke vkw.
