Professor Stefano Passerini, Senior Expert Advisor at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, is one of the most cited scientists in the world. This is confirmed by the renowned list of “Highly Cited Researchers” from the data company Clarivate. The list, published annually, highlights those researchers whose scientific work is cited particularly frequently internationally and who therefore have an exceptional influence on the research community. The “Highly Cited Researchers” list for 2024 includes a total of 6,636 researchers from 59 countries. These belong to the top 0.1 percent of the most frequently cited scientists in their respective fields. There are 47 researchers on the list in Austria, including Stefano Passerini. The scientist is researching the development of sustainable energy storage solutions. With almost 800 scientific publications, a Scopus H index of 124 and more than 55,000 citations, he is one of the most influential researchers in his field. His work focuses on high-energy batteries and supercapacitors using environmentally friendly materials and sustainable processes.

In addition to his work at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, Stefano Passerini is a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Previously, he was a professor at the Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU of KIT) and at the University of La Sapienza in Rome. Passerini is a pioneer in the fields of ionic liquids, polymer electrolytes and sodium-ion batteries. The presence of Stefano Passerini on the “Highly Cited Researchers” list underlines the international importance of the work at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology. With his groundbreaking research, Passerini contributes not only to scientific excellence, but also to solving global challenges in the field of sustainable energy storage.
