More charging stations for Austria

With a total of 20,000 charging points, Austria is far ahead in the EU when it comes to expanding charging infrastructure. The density of the network of fast charging points that are publicly accessible varies geographically: while it is concentrated in some areas, there is a lower concentration in other regions. The “LADIN charging infrastructure” investment program promotes charging points that are publicly accessible without restrictions. The funding rate is up to 60% of the investment costs. Eligible projects are selected in a competitive process.

“In recent years, we have observed and supported very dynamic market developments and many technological advances in electromobility,” emphasizes Martin Russ, Managing Director of AustriaTech, the Federal Society for Technology Policy Measures. For the near future it will now be a matter of working on affordability and distribution. In addition to the necessary vehicles and fleet solution, an adequate and comprehensively available charging infrastructure is crucial. “LADIN is a milestone for us in order to push the construction of charging infrastructure even more specifically in the future,” says Russ. With clear strategic and evidence-based priorities, the program stands out from the classic flat-rate funding in e-mobility.

OLÉ, the Austrian control center for electromobility at AustriaTech, defined the eligible areas and developed the program on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection. The FFG is responsible for processing the funding. From November 8th, 2023, infrastructure operators can apply for the high funding rates. The most important things about the LADIN funding program in brief:

“With our expertise and based on our data, we were able to develop a program together with the FFG that does not support infrastructure expansion across the board, but rather drives it forward in a targeted manner,” says Johannes Hasibar, expert at OLÉ – Austria’s control center for electromobility at AustriaTech.
