Electromobility plays an important role in the mobility transition and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The state of Lower Austria has therefore formulated the goal that from 2025 every tenth car should be electric, and from 2030 even every fifth. However, setting up a private charging facility is often difficult, especially in large-scale residential buildings. In order to remedy this area, the municipality in the “bacon belt” south of Vienna decided to expand the charging infrastructure across the board. “In this way, the city of Mödling would like to create the opportunity for its residents to switch from a fossil fuel to an electric drive and support the market ramp-up of electromobility,” says city councilor Otto Rezac.

By 2025, around eight charging stations will be created per year, a total of 24 new locations, each with two AC charging points. In addition to the existing seven e-charging stations with 31 charging points, a total of 79 public e-charging points will be available in the municipality from 2025. The systems will be built by EVN, which emerged as the best bidder in the tender process. "The municipality of Mödling is setting a good example when it comes to e-mobility. We are pleased to be part of this expansion offensive," said EVN board spokesman Stefan Szyszkowitz.
