Firm belief in e-fuels

IFE Austria GmbH was founded on January 26, 2024, where IFE stands for Innovative Liquid Energy. The consortium of several medium-sized companies wants to advance the production of e-fuels. The managing directors of IFE GmbH are Jürgen Roth (Tank Roth GmbH) and Bernd Zierhut (Doppler Holding GmbH), two representatives of the investor companies who want to ensure the success of this company due to their many years of activity in the mineral oil business and their experience with liquid energy sources.

“I have been working in a leading role on the topic of CO2-neutral fuels for years and am firmly convinced that, especially with our most efficient production technology, e-fuels will become an integral part of the energy transition,” emphasizes Roth. When producing e-fuels, IFE will in future rely on the many years of experience of the Styrian AVL List GmbH, which is currently developing a highly efficient and innovative co-SOEC electrolysis technology. This is intended to enable particularly energy- and cost-efficient production of synthetic fuels and will be industrialized and scaled up with financing from IFE in order to enable competitive production of e-fuels in Austria. “Through this project, we aim to recharge the topic of renewable energies and achieve global market leadership with this technology,” explains Bernd Zierhut.

In addition to financing industrialization, the IFE's task is to market the plant's technology globally, which will then be used as a large-scale plant. This is done via appropriate global exploitation rights and patents. The aim is to start this process in 2025. What is crucial is the provision of CO2 and CO2-neutral electricity, which form an essential part of production. The use of e-fuels in the future will range from the mobility of vehicles, ships to aircraft. This can ensure that the CO2 targets of national and international politics are met. The advantage of using synthetic fuels is that the entire existing infrastructure of pipelines, tank farms, road logistics and filling stations can also be used in the future, meaning that there is a supply of these fuels right from the start.
