In this country, gas is cheaper than water
A current study by Zutobi, an international learning platform for driving license courses, shows that fuel prices vary extremely worldwide. And that everything is relative. In some countries a liter of petrol costs almost nothing, in others it costs so much that in Austria you can even get away with it comparatively cheaply.
According to Zutobi, refueling is currently most expensive in Hong Kong. Drivers there have to pay an average of 2.88 US dollars for a liter of petrol. There is already one European country behind this: According to the study, prices in the Netherlands are 2.58 dollars. This is followed by Norway ($2.50) and Monaco ($2.49) and Zimbabwe ($2.34).
Italy and Germany rank 8th and 9th on the list of countries where fuel is the most expensive.
The result on the other side of the spectrum is much more spectacular: in Turkmenistan, a liter of gasoline costs only 0.43 US dollars - and that's just enough for tenth place on the list of countries where it's currently the cheapest to fill up!
Number one is Venezuela, the country with the largest oil reserves in the world and a founding member of OPEC. There, a liter of fuel costs just 0.03 US dollars! For comparison: In Austria, a liter of tap water currently costs 0.15 to 0.30 cents, i.e. the equivalent of 0.16 to 0.31 dollars. And in this country, water is known to be cheap!
In Libya, costs are similar to those in Venezuela; in Iran, a liter of gasoline is much more expensive in percentage terms: at $0.05, the price is still a joke - and that's enough for third place on the list. Also in the top 10 are Algeria, Kuwait, Angola, Nigeria and Kazakhstan, where average prices are between $0.32 and $0.41 per liter.
