Pandemic increases desire for vacation on four wheels
Studies show that the car is the undisputed number one means of transport for this year's summer vacation.

Pandemic increases desire for vacation on four wheels
72 percent, i.e. 7 out of 10 holidaymakers, travel to their holiday destination by car, and among 18 to 29 year olds the figure is even 8 out of 10. This is the result of a current survey by AutoScout24. Almost a third travel by plane. 18 percent take a vacation by train. The caravan or mobile home is more of a niche program that 6 percent pursue.
When asked about reasons for the car as the mode of choice, the survey clearly shows flexibility as the main argument. In addition to all the flexibility, there is another current reason that speaks in favor of the car. Almost a fifth see the car as a safe means of transport in times of the pandemic because there is no risk of infection. 8 percent see it as an advantage of the car not to be affected by flight cancellations or changing safety regulations when flying due to the pandemic.
The current mobility study from Continental also shows that the pandemic is increasing the desire for a vacation on four wheels. Your own car as part of your individual living space and as a personal retreat has recently become increasingly important, according to the conclusion of the study, which was carried out worldwide by the renowned market research company infas on behalf of Continental. For this purpose, 1,000 German citizens between the ages of 18 and 70 in Germany, among others, were surveyed in May 2022 about their individual mobility needs.
54 percent of those surveyed in the study see their own car as a personal retreat. Over half (53 percent) use a car or a camping or motorhome for vacation trips. Even against the background of long waiting and processing times at airports and canceled or sometimes very overcrowded public transport, for example with the nine-euro ticket, the comfort and safety of the car has become more important during the holiday trip for 61 percent of survey participants from Germany. The vast majority (84 and 60 percent) of those who said in the survey that they had been on the road during the pandemic want to continue using their car, camper van or motorhome even after the pandemic is over or even use it more often.
A trend that emerges overall in the study. People want that
Automobile driving becomes safer, more comfortable, but also more sustainable - and at the same time fits your individual lifestyle.
