The financial burdens such as NoVA, rising fuel and electricity prices, the high mineral oil tax, CO2 pricing or rising parking fees and vehicle insurance costs have made driving massively more expensive. “We as the vehicle trade specialist group support the demands of the “MeinAuto” association and Gerhard Lustig in order to persuade the legislature to take measures that will make driving affordable for everyone again, because many people depend on their own motor vehicle,” says Harald Kaufmann, deputy chairman of the Salzburg state vehicle trade committee.

The specific demands of the car referendum refer to a reduction in taxes and duties by 25 percent. The multiple burdens from NoVA, mineral oil tax and the new CO2 pricing must be reconsidered. In addition, it is suggested to introduce a repair bonus similar to that for electrical appliances. This could relieve the burden on the population, ensure the maintenance of vehicles and optimize their consumption and pollutant emissions. "The repair bonus worked well for electrical appliances, so why not for motor vehicles too. This way, even those with lower incomes get the support they need to maintain their vehicle in the best possible way," says Harald Kaufmann. In addition to the direct costs for individual mobility, the initiative also calls for joint solutions for parking space and parking space management that focus on people. “As a direct contact for car owners, we will inform them about the car referendum and encourage them to sign for it at the nearest municipal office,” Kaufmann concluded.
