Classic car auction: The highlights from Stuttgart
There was a great atmosphere in the Stuttgart exhibition halls: After a year of Corona break, Retro Classics reopened its doors to dealers, collectors and enthusiasts from all over the world. From April 21st to 24th, the unique trade fair concept impressed with a wide range of high-quality vehicles from all eras of automotive history, a huge parts market, interesting special shows and numerous highlights in the supporting program. Around 80,000 visitors were counted, a significant increase compared to the 2020 event.
A highlight of the trade fair was Classicbid. The big trade fair auction on April 23rd caused a real increase in excitement and was therefore one of the absolute highlights at this meeting for driving culture, as Retro Classics describes itself. The fact that the live auction was a highlight was evident from the high number of visitors and the many registrations on site for this event. Online bidders connected and previously received written bids were also taken into account.
The auction started on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 3 p.m. sharp, after a short intro with Formula 1 legend Jochen Mass. The broad portfolio included a total of 42 classic automobiles, as well as twelve so-called automobilia - i.e. various collector's items from the field of motorized mobility. All vehicles were exhibited on site and could therefore be examined in detail.
Right from the start, the Oldsmobile 88 became a sought-after auction vehicle - announced at €14,500, the hammer ultimately fell at more than €23,000 including buyer's premium.
Also successful were, among others, a cute Fiat 126 convertible, a rare VW SP2, the sporty original Audi Quattro, a '67 Mustang, and and and.
Classicbid was able to present a small series with the coveted VW T1 Samba: three models of the cult van were offered and sold. However, the highest bid that day was achieved by another crowd favorite, a Porsche Turbo 3.3.
Not least due to the excellent mood of the auctioneers and the good mood in the audience, at the end of the day or after some reservations had been resolved, almost two thirds of the vehicles on offer were sold - a remarkably good result for classic car auctions.
The next Retro Classics trade fair with Classicbid auction will take place on December 3rd in Nuremberg. All information and dates for Classicbid auctions can be found at www.classicbid.de.
