This car tops the sales lists in 8 EU countries

Given the supply bottlenecks for important components, cars are often in short supply these days. This makes it all the more interesting to compare which European countries have the most new cars relative to their population.

Luxembourg! Statistically speaking, there are 90.54 new cars for every 1,000 people there. Almost 25 percent of all registered cars in Luxembourg are less than two years old! This is based on a statistical evaluation and analysis of the insurance comparison portals confused.com or uswitch.com out.

On the other hand, only 52.47 new cars are statically shared by 1,000 inhabitants in Liechtenstein - but this still makes the principality number two in Europe. In Austria, meanwhile, only 38.67 cars per thousand inhabitants are new.

Speaking of new cars: The Škoda Octavia was recently the best-selling model in no less than 8 EU countries, followed by the VW Golf with a top position in 4 countries. Third place with 2 top positions each is shared by Dacia Logan, Kia Sportage, Renault Clio, Tesla Model 3, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Rav4 and Toyota Yaris.

The global statistics are led by the Toyota Hilux. The legendary pickup was the bestseller in no fewer than 16 countries in 2021. All of this comes from an analysis of Zutobi, an international learning platform for driving license courses.

But back to the overall sales figures. In China or India, just 93 out of 1,000 inhabitants own a car, while in Europe there are almost 600, and in the USA there are even more than 800. But there are also differences within the EU: Austria ranks ninth in Europe with 562 cars per thousand inhabitants. The most cars per person within the EU are in Luxembourg, namely an impressive 681.
