VW improves driving assistants
The Volkswagen Group is working with sensor specialists Valeo and Mobileye to upgrade the driver assistance systems in its upcoming vehicle range to up to Level 2+ (“advanced partially automated driving”) based on the MQB platform. “This cooperation supports us on our path to transformation: By jointly purchasing hardware and software, we streamline purchasing processes, reduce complexity and improve efficiency,” says Dirk Große-Loheide, member of the brand board, procurement and member of the extended group management, group procurement. In addition to hands-free driving under certain conditions on approved highway sections, the system will offer features such as traffic jam assist, hazard detection, parking assist, driver monitoring and a 360-degree emergency assist. Future-oriented technologies such as augmented reality displays are also planned.
Security and automation
The new system features a 360-degree ring of multiple cameras and radar sensors as well as software-controlled functions. This enables hands-free driving on approved roads, intelligent parking and improved safety for vehicle occupants and pedestrians. Valeo delivers high-performance control units (ECUs), sensors and parking solutions, while Mobileye provides its Surround Adas platform, which includes the EyeQ6 High processor and mapping technologies. For the first time, these components are integrated into a single system, replacing multiple control devices with a central unit. This increases efficiency and system performance and enables over-the-air updates to adapt to changing security standards. "At Valeo, we are committed to driving innovation in driver assistance technology. We are pleased to partner with Mobileye to offer this complete, cost-effective and state-of-the-art solution for advanced driving functions to Volkswagen and its end customers," explains Marc Vrecko, CEO of the Valeo Brain Division. “By collaborating with Valeo and Volkswagen Group, this integrated approach of software and hardware brings AI innovations into practice,” said Amnon Shashua, President and CEO of Mobileye.
